4. Problem Solving
Help! My flame is too high.
If your flame is too high or you're getting soot in your jar, extinguish your candle and allow to cool. Trim your wick between 1/8" - 1/4." Use a wick trimmer or nail clippers to get your wick nice and short; your fingers might not be able to break the wick off short enough. Be sure to keep your candle away from vents, fans, or drafts that can interrupt the natural burn of your candle.
Help! My flame is too low.
Keep your wick trimmed in the 1/8" - 1/4" range. Check for and remove and debris or wick trimmings that can clog the wick and produce a low flame. Allow your candle to burn long enough to melt evenly across the entire surface of your container.
Help! My candle won't stay lit.
First, check the length of the wick. Trim wick to 1/8 - 1/4". If the wick was trimmed too low, remove some of the melted wax with a paper towel, allow the wax to cool, and re-light. Also, remove any debris or previous wick trimmings that can clog the wick.
Help! I don't hear any crackle.
You may notice a soft or hard to hear crackle when you first light your candle, that's normal. Each burn will create a better crackle as long as you keep your wick trimmed properly. The very best crackle will come from the last half of the jar.
